Preparing for Zambia

Hello Friends!

As our departure date approaches, things are getting more hectic. After a few bumps, we finally have our tablets and are in the midst of setting them up and downloading learning apps. We purchased 20 tablets (RCA 7” with keyboard) and will be bringing them to Zambia with us. We will be holding a 5-day intensive course on Introduction to Computers to 37 teachers in the town of Lubaya. The teachers will then be able to bring the tablets back to their respective schools and use them to teach computer education to their students. According to Passwell of Kocebuka Community Foundation, who we have been working closely together with, the computer education in the area is dismal, with most students never having seen a computer before. The current lessons cover what a computer is and what one is used for. We have high hopes that the tablets and the course will open up huge opportunities for the students and teachers of Zambia!

Thank you to everyone for your support! We would not be here without you!

Conga Line of Tablets

Thanks to Scott Ratzlaff, Kyle Nissen, and Beth O’Connor for helping us with the conga line tablet set-up. Future thanks to Mary Colpo for delivering them to Vancouver, and to Robert MacKinnon for bringing them to New Westminster. Thanks to Wal-Mart for letting us return 20 tablets that weren’t good enough for us, and sorry to the customer service lady I kind of yelled at because the tablets weren’t delivered on time.
